my elementary school put a "buddy bench" where you could sit and 'wait for a kid to invite you to play'. They banned people from sitting on the bench because kids would sit there the entire recess.

At my school if you ran on the playground you had to sit in timeout but you weren’t allowed to not move during recess so if you didn’t want to play, then you would run across the playground to sit out
