The scent of freshly cooked food filled the kitchen as you smiled, thinking about another day with Heeseung and Haera. After finishing, you went upstairs to wake Haera. “Wake up, honey,” you whispered, brushing her cheek. She stirred, blinking at you with a sleepy smile. “Okay, Mommy. After everyone was ready, the three of you sat down for breakfast. Haera happily chatted about her school day ahead while you and Heeseung smiled. Haera looked up, confused. “Mommy, are you sick?” You reached over to pat her hand. “No, sweetie, just a little headache. Heeseung carried Haera to the car, buckling her into her seat. On the way to Haera’s school, she chatted cheerfully about her day ahead, blissfully unaware of the heaviness in the air. When you arrived, Heeseung parked and helped her out of the car. “Bye, Mommy! Bye, Daddy!” Haera said, hugging you tightly. “Have a great day, my love,” you said, holding her close. Heeseung knelt, brushing her hair back gently. “Be good, okay? Daddy and mommy will come get you later.” Haera nodded and ran off, turning to wave at you both one last time. At the hospital, you sat quietly in the sterile room as the doctor returned with your test results. Heeseung was beside you, gripping your hand tightly. “Mrs. Lee, I’m very sorry,” the doctor began, his voice measured but heavy. “Im Afraid You have an advanced brain tumor. It’s in an inoperable location, and the nature of the tumor makes it untreatable.” You felt the air leave your lungs as the room spun. Heeseung’s grip on your hand tightened. “No,” Heeseung said, his voice cracking. “There has to be something treatment, surgery, anything. We'll pay a lot of Money just to do anything to save her, Aren't you the best doctor here in the country? Why won't you find a solution huh?” Heeseung shouted. The doctor shook his head, his face solemn. “I wish there were, but at this stage, all we can do is provide palliative care to ensure she’s as comfortable as possible.
