「 大排檔 - a taste of HK history 🔥 」| 📍 Oi Man Sang, HK _______ Growing up in Hong Kong, one of my core memories would be sitting on the backless red plastic stool, and eating piping hot food in the stifling summer heat. That was not quite enjoyable as a child given my immature palate, but visiting a 大排檔, now as an adult, really hits different 😌 大𝗗𝗮𝗶 排𝗣𝗮𝗶 擋𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗴, which translates to

That was not quite enjoyable as a child given my immature palate, but visiting a 大排檔, now as an adult, really hits different 😌 大𝗗𝗮𝗶 排𝗣𝗮𝗶 擋𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗴, which translates to "big license stall", is a touchstone of Hong Kong heritage and culture. Back then, these open-air food vendors were not licensed, but were the backbone of cheap street eats of Hong Kong, serving comfy like congee, noodles, stir-fry dishes, and more. Over the years, due to government regulations and hygiene issues, the number of dai pai dong's decreased rapidly, with only 25 of them left in the city now. 𝗢𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗴 is a Sham Shui Po staple and frequented by both locals and visiting tourists. Their specialty is cantonese dishes loaded with 鑊wok 氣hei (translated to "breath of the wok"), where extreme high heat (they cook with kerosene!) allows the food to be quickly caramelized and bringing out this exquisitely smoky & charred flavor. Their 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗽 and 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗶𝗻 were truly chef's kiss 😍 If you're looking for an authentically Hong Kong experience, this spot should definitely be on your list! ________ #hongkongfood #hongkong #hongkongtiktok #foodies #travelfoodie #fyppp
