Exchange students come there to experience the culture, maybe be open to do “typical” stuff in your country with them even if you don’t normally do those things. That’s what I felt I missed out on.

DRIVING!! Especially because I live out in the country, they often get so annoyed when I ask for a ride but like there is nothing out here like not even a neighborhood to take a walk😭

If we ever get sick while we’re there, we’ll probably miss our parents and their way of taking care of us. Maybe bring us some water, medicine or just sitting with us so we’re not alone means a lot ❤️

hygiane standars are soooo diferent depending on the country, ofc since the exange students come to your house they have to adjust to your higane standards. find a way to have that conversation (more)

my host family was very religious and they didn't accept that I was an atheist. I had go to church every Sunday and often give me sermons and try to "convert me". basically respect other beleifs

Don’t assume we know anything about how things work in the US! For example, it was very confusing to me when people gave me directs using north/south/east/west or when they spoke of intersections :(

Let them speak their native language in front of you, e.g. when they have other exchange students over. It can be lonely sometimes to not speak your native language
