I don’t think fire dept should really EVER get their budgets cut tbh. I’d rather pay a bit more in taxes if it meant that my dept had the latest and greatest in tech and the firefighters were happy

while true, this is only 2% of their budget so it definitely had some effect and shouldn't've been done (or needed to be done) but it's not like some massive downsize

The other issue is that bc this is in the winter a lot of wildland firefighters don’t currently have contracts so the USFS has limited resources as well
