@chelseahartisme: For millennia, the indigenous peoples of California thrived with the land by overseeing yearly controlled burns that allowed fire-resistant species to grow. The practice was outlawed in 1850 and since then, as well as an overgrowth of flammable underbrush, numerous invasive, flammable species have been gradually introduced into the environment. I hope we realise by now how important restoring indigenous sovereignty is for our future. Our lives depend on it. #california #fire #losangeles #californiafires #news #trendingnow #news #history #landback

The entire west coast was a METICULOUSLY crafted and cared for ecosystem before colonizers showed up and started acting like they knew better than those that created these forest gardens.

same in South Africa, there's a whole genus of plants that need fire to propagate. One species was thought to be extinct until after devastating fires activated the seeds and allowed it to grow again

Fire is also the best way to get rid of invasive plants, here in Iowa (different climate completely I know) they do controlled burns every few years to help the native plants and get rid of Invasive

Mismanagement by the state government also. Climate change is Not a factor. Not even a little bit. Climate change is a fear based psyop for political reasons

So so many plants in Australia either thrive after a fire or only flower after one. Does America do controlled burns to prevent the build up of fuel?

Not true. High return intervals favor invasive grasses; that’s what you get w frequent low intensity. Chaparral is adapted to 30+ fire return intervals, but many chaparral species don’t “need” fire

I really appreciate this perspective. It is the same here in Colorado for the ponderosas, aspens, lodgepoles and scrub oak & then in Yosemite (Ahwahnee) for the sequoias.

This fire could of been avoided if we did controlled burns but the governor is too worried about the state looking ugly and smoky and have a decline in tourism what an idiot
