People of Leeds can now have their say on plans to ‘license’ privately rented homes in certain parts of the city 🏠 It means certain landlords in ‘Selective Licensing’ areas would be required by law to keep properties in a decent state of repair and with safely working appliances. They’d be subject to checks by Leeds City Council too - with the scheme more broadly aimed at supporting the Council and partners tackling wider issues such as crime and health inequalities. 👨👩👧👦 The scheme has been running in much of Beeston and Harehills since 2020, and the council now wants public opinions on a further area for five more years - and expanding it to parts of Armley, Holbeck, Hunslet, Cross Green and East End Park as well as Beeston and Harehills. If approved following the consultation, most private landlords in Selective Licensing areas would need to purchase a licence for any residential property they are hoping to let. Licenses purchased online would cost £1,100 (or £1,225 for paper applications) to cover the running costs of the scheme. The consultation period closes on 13th December - with landlords, tenants and other local stakeholders encouraged to fill out the survey using the link in our bio ✏️ #leeds #thingstodoinleeds #leedslife #renting #landlord @Leeds City Council
An unforgettable day for Leeds at the Rob Burrow Marathon ❤️ Inspired by the fundraising efforts of Leeds Rhinos legends Rob and Kev - 14,000 people took part in the marathon and half marathon today at Headingley Stadium 🙌 Runners are expected to have raised millions of pounds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND Appeal, along with hundreds of other charities. Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND in 2019 and since then he and his family have campaigned tirelessly to raise money and awareness of the disease - with Rob’s dream being to have a specialist centre for MND patients built right here in Leeds ❤️ Rob’s whole family and a host of former Leeds Rhinos teammates joined him on the start line, with his wife Lindsey finishing the half marathon minutes before Kevin Sinfield crossed the line for the marathon itself 💪 Congratulations to everyone who took part! 🏆 #Leeds #LeedsMarathon #RobBurrow #leedsrhinos #MND #marathon
Lunch in Leeds for a FIVER 😋 Part 1: Spuddys & Wraps 🫔 Everyday life can feel very expensive right now, so we’re on the hunt for the best food in Leeds - that might just save you a few quid too! Every lunch featured in this series must cost no more than £5… and possibly even less 💰 First up is Spuddys & Wraps. This Lebanese food truck is new to Bond Street, just down from Trinity. We went for the Chicken Gyros at £5 on the dot and the Hummus Lamb Box at £4.50 If neither of those take your fancy, they do jacket potatoes, with a choice of toppings, priced from £2.90 to £4.90 😲 Know where we should visit next? Leeds city centre has a HUGE new addition… inside one of Briggate’s most famous buildings 😲 Retailer Flannels has brought the old Debenhams store back to life, opening six floors filled with luxury designer goods. The building was home to Debenhams for 60 years, but closed in 2021. The site was later earmarked to become student flats, yet those plans never materialised. @FLANNELS soon came in for the 70,000 sq ft store, relocating from their previous Vicar Lane store. There’s more to come as part of the development, with a restaurant to open on the ground floor, and a @HiiCLUB gym being built on the basement floor too 🙌 #leeds #leedscitycentre #leedsshopping #flannels #leedsfashion #thingstodoinleeds
