@onewildlifer: Look who showed up yesterday! Fresh out of the egg Brown Pelican chicks newly hatched at Homosassa Springs! You can even see part on an egg behind the little ones, still under Mom! When we arrived, one had hatched, by the time we left there were three little ones!! (when chicks emerge on different days it is referred to as asynchronous hatching) You can even hear their little calls, which are surprisingly loud for such tiny things! Yes, it seems early but there they are! Another chick hatched at another nest on the "island" and a White Pelican is on two beautiful eggs. Hope everything survives the cold. As you can see, these little ones have no feathers and are relying 100% on Mom and Dad to keep them warm. It's tough in nature, even straight out of the egg! Hope you all get a chance to go see them grow, they are right by the boardwalk so it's a magnificent chance to see the something pretty special. It made my heart sing to see and hear children get so excited when they saw the little ones. Of course you couldn't pry me away from them 😁 **Just a note to remind folks that the park sustained hurricane damage and parking / admissions is only at the Visitor Center at 4150 S Suncoast Blvd, Homosassa, FL 34446. You must walk or take the tram from there. Please be patient, they have done a great job getting things open to the public after being hot so hard.
