@tylerpath: The biggest culprit for shoulder pain on bench press that I’ve seen is simply pressing with too much elbow flare. This is especially common among beginners or anyone who has never done a little bit of research on the mechanics of a bench press. Love this tip! Flaring out your elbows puts a lot of stress on the anterior (front) part of the shoulder capsule. By tucking your shoulders in you avoid that!
