Dodges &Plymouths have always take the hit in racing, more lbs. per cubic inch, or some other form from whining Phords & Chuvy teams.

Note the hemis were intake restricted. The street Hemis had more HP than the NASCAR version. The Fords were able to run the street version with more HP than the NASCAR restricted Fords.

The engine that achieved horsepower parity with Hemi in that era was the FE427 Tunnel port in 68 not the CJ. Then came the Boss 429 in 69. Dodge had to make the Daytona to keep the Dodge Competitive.

The Ford and Mercurys won the most races compared to the Dodge and Plymouths. All in the end had to use restrictor plates. For the record, Chevrolet did not.
