Our yard has become their first stop to avoid the downpour. Looking into the old cat house, we noticed it was leaking everywhere, leaving the poor felines helpless. A little tabby stood on the eaves, turning back to glance at the restaurant's cat house where many others had already returned. We remembered the big white cat who once got soaked in the rain. Thankfully, a friend adopted him a few days ago, and he's probably nestled comfortably in his new family's arms now. Meanwhile, another cat braved the heavy rain, making its way down from the leaking shelter toward the restaurant's cat house. The rain was pouring, and the little one was almost soaked through. Even the small black cat was still holding the fort, lifting its wet paw in discomfort. Seeing them so vulnerable, we couldn't let them stay in such conditions.

"Come on, I'll take you to a place without rain," we said, guiding them to a drier spot. The next day brought sunshine, and we knew it was the perfect time to renovate the cat house. Serving as a station connecting the inside and outside of the yard, it had become dilapidated after enduring two rainy seasons. We removed the broken boards and straw, replacing the base with a sturdy wooden structure instead of the problematic iron sheets we used last time. We installed supports and left a larger gap after leaning it against the wall to prevent rainwater from flowing directly onto it. Given the hot mountain weather during the day, we decided against using sealing boards for better ventilation. A large glass roof was added, providing shade on sunny days and full protection during rain. Soon, two "trial officers" arrived - cats who quickly fell asleep in the new shelter, even sticking out their tiny tongues in contentment. To ensure their safety, we installed a hollow partition to prevent them from sleepwalking and falling while asleep. We also transformed part of the structure into an open-air terrace, serving as a step for cats to go in and out and a place to lounge. As evening approached, cats returned from all directions. They jumped onto the wall, then onto the new steps, and entered the yard. "Time to eat, kitties," we called, and they gathered for dinner. The big cats, having played enough outside, returned on time to the restaurant. After their meal, we watched them adapt to the new cat house. Some went out to play, while others settled in for a restful night. This new shelter not only provides a safe haven from the elements but also brings joy and comfort to these furry friends.
