Have you ever had those days where you’re just going about your business, but then suddenly, you can’t shake off this one sentence you said earlier? It’s like your mind latches onto it and won’t let go, replaying it over and over again in your head. You start to wonder if you said the right thing, if your tone was off, and before you know it, you’re stuck in a loop, unable to move past it for the rest of the day. This fixation happens because your brain becomes super sensitive to potential threats when you’re anxious or have experienced trauma. It’s like an alarm going off, warning you that you might get hurt or rejected. So, even small mistakes in what you say or how you act can feel like a big deal. The mind keeps holding on to these moments because it’s actually trying to protect itself. I know it’s super exhausting and often very frustrating and feels like your mind is obsessing but it’s your brain’s way of trying to keep you safe.. Ok now you have the awareness why this is happening but what next?⬇️ 1️⃣When you catch yourself obsessing over past mistakes, challenge those thoughts with evidence that contradicts them. Ask yourself if there’s any real evidence that what you said or did was as catastrophic as you’re imagining. 2️⃣Allow yourself a specific amount of time to think about the situation, then set it aside. Distract yourself with activities you enjoy or tasks that require your focus to break the cycle of rumination. 3️⃣Avoid comparing yourself to others, as this can fuel feelings of inadequacy and intensify overthinking. Remember that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it’s okay to make mistakes. 4️⃣Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, focus on what you can learn from the experience. Remember, anxiety is like a spotlight on our insecurities and uncertainties, but with practice and patience, we can learn to dim its intensity and shine a light on our strengths and resilience.” #obsession #rumination #overthinking #socialanxiety #traumaresponse #trauma #hypervigilance #stress #mind #anxiety #ptsd #cptsd #complextrauma #traumainformed #selfawareness #compassion #brain #MentalHealth credit IG @twolittlestolove
