@build_in_public: This is one of the darkest things in SEO that I've heard. I just met a guy. He puts links to his site in all his clients' websites. He does this without asking and he puts the links in places the clients won't think to look. He does this because these backlinks make his website perform better in Google. He ranks for keywords that will get him more clients. Each new client is more backlinks. Sometimes clients have multiple websites. He's never been caught and I said, "What if you're caught?" He said, Oh, I'll just say, "It was an accident. Yeah, I was testing. We put that in as test copy. Sorry about that." The crazy thing - there's this thing in SEO called Link Echoes. Multiple tests have shown that even if a backlink is removed, the positive effects still remain. Even if a site loses a backlink, the positive effects from that backlink remain for months or years. So this guy does this, he ranks for more keywords, he gets more clients and he gets more links and the cycle repeats. Insane. #blackhatseo #seo #searchengineoptimization #seotips
