I’m a landlord and I believe in competitive market-based rents, but if a natural disaster of this scale happened in my region I absolutely would not raise my rent listing. I’m not a charity but at the same time I don’t want to *exploit* people.

My friend’s friend went to rent a home for 4k- the landlord got so much demand it went up to close to 8k overnight. Her friend is a realtor- homes starting at 9k went up to 14k, 3k-5.7k. It’s unreal

My uncle is moving out of state and renting his house out. He’s increasing the rent cost by $1500 - the rent he’s paying out of state. In a way he’s doing someone a favor that can’t leave California.

Yeah I checked Zillow this morning and a lot of listings increased. They were previously doing cuts because there is a lot of rental vacancies (in the valley anyways).

People in our area (Venice/MDR) are getting non-renewals on their leases so they can kick them out and raise the prices. Our friends have to move out next month with two young children and no where to go.
