@abc7chicago: The FBI released new photos of a damaged water-dropping super scooper firefighting aircraft that collided with a drone over the Palisades Fire. According to officials, the plane collided with a privately-owned drone, causing significant damage to it. The drone put a 3x6 hole in the aircraft, causing a 20- to 30-minute delay in the aerial firefight.
could have temp fixed it and returned to service in 2 hours but they want to make an exaggerated point to keep other drones from flying?

Drone pilot here. as unrealistic ad it sounds, small drones can pose a major risk for large airplanes, that's why even in fly zones you cannot fly over 400ft to keep clearance. this was no-fly zone 😞

Trying? Its DJI mini. Registered to someone. It won’t fly without registration

so many people have no idea what the logistics of aircraft repair are. Airports aren't holding parts for every aircraft that exists. Inspect determine what's needed order parts fly parts from wherever

DJI. The drone has to be registered to fly, it also shows up on radar.

Looks like a Mav Mini which is 249grams and is exempt from the FAA regulations, I don’t see how that could’ve caused that damage. Most likely they want the other footage side

So like why aren’t they spending this time to fix it instead of leaving it untouched and FBI already has the drone so how much is this investigation going to cost??

wait a minute they didn't know they hit a drone until they landed, and all those pieces were found? shouldnt they be scattered mile cause it happened in the air?

Looks like fake. I have dji drone and if the area has any restrictions you won’t be able to takeoff or if you find the place to take off with no restrictions it won’t let u like there is invisiblewall

Is the drone made of titanium or something? How does paperweight penetrate a plane? Birds are heavier than a drone! 🤔 seems to me the governments looking for more excuses to minimize camera footage

that's a DJI drone. as a pilot of such drones I'm surprised it got off the ground. the airspace was restricted and DJI checks before allowing takeoff. it would be transmitting ID and GPS also.

Just because you have a drone that is below 249grams does not mean you can fly it over an active fire.If it’s under 249 grams you don’t have register it but you still have to follow regulations.

I have that EXACT drone and a bird or a gust of wind will knock it outbid the sky. It would not in any circumstance cause that amount of damage. In addition that drone would not operate in that area

As a dji drone owner it wouldn’t even let you fly over “no flight zones “ or if so it wouldn’t even let you fly a certain height so it’s not the drones fault

lol what company owns the drone? It’s obviously a dji, and can easily look up the owners account they use cuz u HAVE to sign it up with the dji app.

I love that the reporter gets dramatic, “…leaving a football sized hole” in the wing. When in actuality I was described by the official to be 3 inch by 6 inches.

How did the drone even lift off if it was a no-fly zone? DJI (or any manufacturer) should be required to ensure their drones won't fly in a no-fly zone.

How could the drone even fly with all that heat? It would have been so hot wouldn’t it have just burned up? Or if it was a TFR could it even fly? Sucks either way.
