When you’ve got a gator by the tail, remember they can spin right around and bite your hand on the tail! This is something I teach early on when training an apprentice, I often see people get tunnel vision and death grip the tail, forgetting the gator will turn around and bite its own tail with your hand on it! I’ve seen this almost happen many times. Or they hold too tight and the force of the spin can throw you off balance or into the jaws. I don’t often get to show off my wild gator handling skills anymore since my focus is now on rescue and training, but it’s fun to remember my gladiator days🐊. Gaston was showing how excited he was for surgery yesterday! After this I caught him and we taped him up and had a successful surgery removing the foreign body in his colon. This was filmed in landscape, and I’ll have the full video of the day out in a week or so. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed. Stallone update! He’s extra friendly!! A great reminder that gators can be in any body of water in Florida, they often stop to rest in small areas while moving to find new habitat, so always be cautious!! Just like we did with Bella & Dino, we will be giving Stallone his space to allow him to acclimate and once he decides he is ready we will begin trying to interact with him. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed.
