A black hole does not suck in matter from a distance like a vacuum cleaner; it only destroys objects that venture too close. As a star approaches the critical boundary, the black hole's colossal tidal forces begin to pull unevenly on the star. The gravitational pull on the side of the star facing the black hole is significantly stronger than on the far side, causing the star to lose its shape and stretch violently. Physicists call this process spaghettification: the star is literally torn apart and stretched into a long, thin stream of gas. Roughly half of this stellar debris is flung out into deep space, while the remaining half is captured by the black hole's gravity. This gas begins to swirl around the black hole, creating a flat, rapidly rotating structure called an accretion disk. Inside this disk, the stellar matter moves at near-light speeds, colliding and rubbing together to heat up to millions of degrees. This generates an incredibly bright glow in the ultraviolet and X-ray spectrums, which astronomers detect as a Tidal Disruption Event (TDE). Only after this intense heating does the glowing gas finally cross the event horizon, vanishing forever into the black hole, while excess energy is blasted back into space as powerful polar jets. #blackhole #scarytiktoks #Science #astro
