@willfrancis24: How NOT to lose your job in marketing in 2025: 1. Learn AI - start with proper courses in ChatGPT 2. Learn video - ideating, 3. Get people in your content 4. Get on the pulse 5. Measure the right metrics. Marketing has changed a lot in the last few years. Here are 5 things you really need to get on top of and how to do that. 1. Learn AI. By which I mean learn to use the biggest tools, primarily ChatGPT. Free ways to do that 1. Check the resources in my bio, I’ve written about free courses you can take. 2. do some free tutorials on YouTube. 3. Join communities on Reddit, newsletter-based ones. My fave of those is Ben’s Bites, and the community is packed with info and tutorials though that is paid. 2. Learn video - this one is hugely overdue. I mean ideating, structure, shoot, edit, publish. It’s the primary format everywhere now. Not the only format, words and pictures still matter, but being unable to make lots of video regularly is a problem. The only way anyone learns is starting. That’s all. 3. Related - get people in the content, brands in social are if not dead, dying. No-one wants brands there. They never have. So use your people to do the marketing, by which I mean their personal channels but also of course putting them front and centre in videos, their expertise in your articles, their faces in your photos. It’s an easy way to a) make things look less like marketing and b) connect more strongly with your audience. 4. Get on the pulse - you need to set up a low-effort system for staying on top of news, memes, trends in your world. For me it’s simply Inoreader to follow news from websites, TikTok and LinkedIn to stay on top of trends, newsletters for the latest updates and developments that matter in AI, social, marketing. Again, check out resources in my bio for lists of marketing and AI newsletters to subscribe to. That’s the most immediate way to make sure you never miss anything. 5. make sure you are being measured by the right metrics - so many of us in marketing are being measured by numbers that are important to non-marketers. Usually down the bottom of the funnel and that makes us look bad. Our job is mostly driving top and middle of funnel awareness and engagement, as well as clicks and sales.
