Buy dates with the pits in, they stay fresh and (pardon the word) moist for longer, I’ve never come across a mouldy one.

I buy pitted and have never noticed any mold. they are easy to inspect.

We eat dates almost every day. I have only ever found a couple that were bad. However, my friend got a pack and they all had really nasty fungus inside!

I started buying my dates from an international store and they have them in a fridge not on the shelves. Haven't dealt with mold since.
