@hedgerow_healing: I always find it fascinating that many of us will go through the year unknowingly practicing customs that have formed part of various cultures for thousands of years, and the famous "Spring Clean" is a great example. Spring cleaning was a custom practiced by people to release the stagnant energy of the old year and make way for the spring. It was highly important to recognise the slow stirrings of the new season and embrace this new energy and growth which would help bring a positive mindest to those struggling with the Winter. Many cultures practiced this custom from late january/early feburary into March, and in the UK and Ireland this custom was celebrated on Imbolc, the first of the spring festivals and the beginning of the lambing season. The point of spring cleaning is to rid the house of the winter dust that has collected over Yule, and allow the fresh air of the new year and season to circulate the household. It was believed this could help cleanse the energy of the old year whilst at the same time being beneficial for our minds and bodies. It is so easy to feel stagnant at this time of year, yet when we look closely at the land around us we will notice the subtle signs that winter is lessening its grip on the landscape and new life is stirring under the still earth. The sunset is later each day, new green shoots appear in the banks and hedgerows, and the sap slowly starts to rise in the trees. . . . . #spring #springclean #ancientcustom #ancienttradition #paganbritain #imbolc #firefestival #springtraditions #springfestivals #brigid #bride #springgoddess #candlemass #hedgerowhealing #witchtok #greenwitch #hedgewitch #naturewitch #kitchenwitch #witch #goddess

Imbolc is a Gaelic thing and in Ireland we don't like being referred to as a 'British' isle because we're not British.

I'm skeptical of the all around the world claim since the reasoning seems deeply European.
