I was taught by my grandma who threw the best parties to never use friends for parties. If they are your friend you will want them there as a guest. I think it's a great rule.

Never use a friend for a wedding day duty is the biggest absolutely knot! If you happen to have friends that could help with invitations sure why not but day of duties absolutely not!

Friend of ours was my sister’s dj but he’s a pro and has a contract - he was great! My cousin hired a friend of a friend for photos and they were TERRIBLE. It’s such a gamble!

This is why the best vendors to be friends are the ones that are done before the reception starts. florist, baker, tailor, etc are all safer because they can't mess up the wedding while it's ongoing.
