@travelandsqueak: You’ll never believe that this is Hong Kong 😮 Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Gardens are a gorgeous Buddhist temple complex and gardens built in the Tang dynasty style known for simplicity, elegance and blending harmony with nature 😍 You’ll discover symmetrical courtyards with tranquil lotus ponds with water lilies, perfectly-pruned bonsai, cypress and peony trees, intricate rock carvings, beautiful tree-lined paths, a magnificent golden pavilion and vibrant red bridge and grand halls with Buddha and bodhisattvas statues alongside lavish gold offerings. The beauty and colour of the complex is a stark contrast to the dull-coloured high rises outside. What’s also incredibly impressive with the Tang dynasty architectural style is that not a single nail is used in this construction. Instead, every wooden beam perfectly interlocks, highlighting ancient traditional craftsmanship. It’s one of the world’s largest handmade wooden buildings and is the only building in Hong Kong in this style 🤯 The nunnery and the gardens are connected by a footbridge and are definitely worth a visit when in Hong Kong for an insight into a rich cultural and historical site providing serenity and spiritual tranquility.
