Also shades of darkness tend to correlate with socioeconomic status as the darker you are, the more time you spend outside in the sun. So the ones that can afford the makeup also tend to be lighter.

Went to a spa with my cousin b4 her wedding ; they put skin lighter in my facial as a favor to me. I was shocked since I had asked them not to do that, saying I had sensitive skin. it's heartbreaking.

It's just not India,it's the same in Bangladesh.We have to preorder our shades without even knowing whether it would suite or not.Some shops don't even help with the shade if we don't buy in the end.

its not even the people wanting lighter colours, theyre MATCHED with them. i have gone to sooo many shops in blr and whenever i req a shade match, they give me sth 5 shades lighter AND IM LIGHTSKIN
