Eaten fruit my whole life by just giving it a quick wash in the sink with water. Pretty healthy so far.

the color comes from the skin of the fruit - the baking soda makes it more soluble by converting the pigments into salts

Unfortunately the really bad pesticides are systemic - which means they go right through the plant. Ideally you buy organic ‘dirty dozen’ fruits n vege.
