@cravingpalestine: For centuries, the keys and custodianship of one of Christianity's holiest sites, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in occupied Jerusalem, have rested with two Palestinian Muslim families. Over hummus and falafel at the renowned Leena's, a beloved and historic family run spot in the Old City, we had the honor of meeting Wajeeh Nuseibeh. Since the seventh century, his family has upheld the sacred duty of opening and closing the church for generations, alongside the Joudeh family, who safeguard the keys. This 1,300-year-old tradition is a powerful symbol of interfaith unity, trust, and coexistence in Jerusalem. This arrangement dates back to the 7th century, when Caliph Omar ion al-Khattab entrusted these duties to a Muslim family as a symbol of trust and tolerance.
