I had 4 of my family members scare me out of enlisting when I had People from DC come to recruit me due to my ASVAB scores. If my eyesight wasn't compromised, I would've been one hell of a pilot

My recruiter loved me, I walked in and said “I want to join the Air Force, what do I need to do”, and then I picked a job that had a bonus for me and extra points for him. Easiest recruit ever.

Idk about the USA but in Australia the other thing that makes it so ASD friendly is standing orders. There is a right way of doing everything and it is all nicely written out for you if you know where to look.
