@nettlesandpetals: Easy to Grow - Expensive to Buy 🌱 Want to start growing your own food from seed this year? Well why not start with these three crops that are easy to grow, but expensive to buy… No.1 Mixed Lettuce/salads Mixed lettuce is usually quite expensive and wrapped in plastic, but a pack of mixed lettuce seeds generally contains hundreds of seeds, and the plants are easy to grow. I keep my plants growing in the garden for around ten weeks and just pick 3-5 leaves from each plant each week, so that’s up 50 leaves per plant. No.2 Courgette Even though courgettes are super easy to grow and are that productive you’ll likely be giving them away by the end of the season, they are usually expensive to buy, particularly if organic, and there are lots of interesting varieties to choose from that you can’t buy either! No.3 Chard One of my garden staples, chard is another one that once you start growing, you realise just how overpriced it is to buy! They are really versatile, easy to grow, and a plant can keep producing leaves for almost the entire season if looked after correctly. Grow Along with me in 2025: My new book is now available to pre-order and will be released in March, just in time for the growing season 🌱 link in my bio 😊📗 You can also join my free community newsletter for lots more tips, recipes and garden updates, link in my bio for that too 😊 Thank you so much and let’s grow together in 2025! 😊🌱 #gardeningtips #vegetablegarden #seedsowing #growyourownfood

Please 🙏🏼 tell me how to defeat the vine borer. I’ve wrapped the stems, covered with nets and injected zucchini stems with BT. I won’t give up!!

I tried chard, cabbage , lettuce & calabrese a couple of years ago and nearly all were ravaged by slugs or butterflies, despite organic anti-slug wool and fine netting. Any tips ? (Scottish climate).
