Public sentiment might not be the best metric. That could include ppl’s expectations for the future - if the candidate they voted for ends up winning, ppl will usually be more optimistic

because consumer sentiments takes your outlook on the economy in the future into account, obviously if you think your side is better for the economy you’ll expect it to be doing better soon
