The lack of 3rd spaces I think plays a factor. As well as the tradition of adding on to a home, expanding a starter home as needed.

Some people just want a smaller home as well. I do not have the excutive function of taking care of more than 1200 sq ft mx. I live in about 900 with two kids, 1 tv, very happy.

We’ve raised 2 kids in 900 sq ft, for 18 years. In Canada, with 8 months of winter 😂 Now there’s a decrease in good public spaces, so you “need” a bigger private spaces 🤷♀️

I LOVE those little post-war bread box houses. the neighbourhoods in my city where they were built are so beautiful. if i have to be in a SFH Suburb. that's where I'd want to be.

If I felt like it was possible for me to buy a small house and afford to move until a bigger house later, I'd also be more comfortable getting a smaller house. Instead if I buy something, THAT'S IT.

I knowfolks who raised 2 kids in a 2-br house their whole childhood. The ones with 2-same the kids just shared. The ones with 1B/1G usually added on a 3rd bedroom. But kept the same house.

We just downsized from 2200 to a 1200 sqft house. With 2 small kids. We don’t have a master bath anymore, but I love the smaller space so much more. wish more people had the option for smaller
