There came a point where I realised I had two choices. I could keep telling myself it was “just my age,” accept feeling tired, feeling a right frump in my own clothes, and avoid photos because I didn’t like what I saw... Or I could decide that I deserved better. So I made a decision. 1️⃣ I stopped starting again every Monday. I stopped waiting for the perfect time and focused on being consistent 2️⃣ I prioritised protein at every meal. Protein kept me fuller for longer, reduced cravings, and helped me maintain muscle while losing weight 3️⃣ I started going for walks every day. Instead of spending hours on the sofa, I got moving 4️⃣ I drank more water. Half the time I thought I was hungry, I was actually thirsty. Drinking more water helped with energy levels, cravings, and portion control 5️⃣ I went to bed earlier and stopped scrolling until midnight. Better sleep meant better energy, fewer cravings, and better food choices the next day 6️⃣ I started reading food labels when shopping. I became aware of how much sugar and unnecessary ingredients were hiding in foods 7️⃣ I started saying, “No thanks” to foods that didn’t make me feel good 8️⃣ I planned my meals and ate the same meals on repeat. Having simple go-to meals made healthy eating much easier and less stressful 9️⃣ I tracked my meals sometimes. Just enough to stay aware of how much I was eating 🔟 I put my health before other people’s opinions. I stopped worrying about what people thought of my food choices and workouts None of these things happened overnight. Some weeks the scales barely moved. Some days I wanted to quit. But I kept showing up - I stayed consistent. If you’re in your 40s and older and wondering if it’s “too late” to change... It isn’t. Your body is still capable of amazing things when you give it the right support. The best time to start was years ago. The second-best time is today.
