Growing up we used to joke with my Gran that she was a witch and when she dies we’re spreading her ashes on Pendle hill. On her death those were her outlined wishes to have the final laugh. Miss her💕

I read that they likely told her if she told those stories in court then her family would be freed and were able to all go home and it all be over

The UK witch trials were horrific - witch hunters would go from town to town earning money if they “found” witches. So anyone (whether they practiced any actual witchcraft or not) was at risk 🧵

This is a god honest true story. We went on a school trip to pendle hill & went for a walk when we got back a girl found a dead duck in her bed. None of us had been aloud in the rooms yet!!

There’s horrible stories from the 16th&17th century for witch trials from where I’m from in Dumfries :( we are still a VERY spiritual town. It breaks my heart 😭
