@becky_briggs_nrg: 3 marathons - 3 lessons: 1. London, 2:35 "it's not over until you decide it's over" This was 18 months after discovering I had 2 x sacral stress fractures (essentially broken bones in both sides of my lower back). I was determined not to let this injury be the end of my journey in elite running. I worked extremely hard to get myself to standing on the elite start of London marathon in april 2024, while I was proud of the 2:35 performance, I was more proud of the 18 months prior to that - going from rock bottom to be healthy and to be there on that day was special. 2. New York City, 2:51 "when we run we are never really alone" I had the last minute oppolrtunity to run the NYC marathon, my first time going to the US never mind NYC and was a solo trip, I travelled alone, stayed alone, you get the jist. I used this as prep for Valencia 4 weeks later, hence I wasn't racing this, rather getting content for a brand and taking in the atmosphere. despite acutally being out there alone, NYC marathon was the least lonely I've ever felt during a race. Heading over the first bridge, it's silent, except it wasn't - we all started cheering each other when there weren't any crowds and it really reflected that every time you step out for a solo run you're never really alone - there's so many other runners out there with you doing exactly the same thing, cheering you on, even if you're not physically running with them. 3. Valencia, 2:32 "to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" I felt VERY unconfident heading into Valencia marathon. When it comes to race week and race day itself, all that's left to do is to eat your bagels and get your mind in that state of focus, of numbness, of a steely kind of grit and determination. Marathon race day is special, and doesn't come around frequently so this served as that reminder to summon that self belief and give it the abolute best shot on the day. And I did just that, 2:32 very much felt like a stepping stone back towards my best and 3 marathons, 3 lessons - I'm excited for what 2025 may bring. #fyp #marathontraining #marathon #narathonrunner #runninginspiration #runnergirl
