gautama_buddha_shakyamuni In Theravada Buddhism, does everything happen due to Kamma? - 08 ☸️ The four supporting conditions (sampatti) Rebirth in a favourable birth (gati sampatti) Possession of attractive physical features (upadhi sampatti) Rebirth at a favourable time (kala sampatti) Presence of effort (payoga sampatti) ☸️ The four counteracting conditions (vipatti) Rebirth in an unfavourable birth (gati vipatti) Possession of unattractive physical features (upadhi vipatti) Rebirth at an unfavourable time (kala vipatti) Lack of effort (payoga vipatti) The precise mechanism of how exactly a kamma produces it’s final result is a complex process and is known only to a Samma Sambuddha. In the Acintita sutta of the Anguttara Nikaya, Buddha described four topics that are incomprehensible and impenetrable as they transcend the limits of thinking and hence one should not conjecture upon as it will only distract one from the final path of liberation and lead to madness: The range of powers a Buddha develops after becoming a Buddha (Buddha-visaya). The range of powers one develops in a deep state of concentration (Jhana) through concentration meditation (Jhana-visaya). The exact mechanism of how a kamma leads to its results (kamma-vipaka). Speculation about the world, i.e. the origin of the world (loka-cinta). According to the Buddhist concept of kamma, every volitional or intentional bodily, verbal and mental action will result in an effect sooner or later following the natural law of cause and effect. Wholesome actions will result in positive consequences and vice versa. There had been certain religious leaders who had stated that all our experiences are caused by our kamma committed in the past, the Buddha rejected that theory. In the Buddhist literature, kamma has been described as one of five natural orders (niyama). The Buddha has stated that the effect of a particular past kamma depends on present kamma as well as other conditions present at the time of the effect taking place. This gives a choice and the free will for the person to take necessary actions to either ameliorate or even neutralize the effect of a certain previous kamma. #buddha #buddhism
