@wetrabbitkayaks: Check out this Pileated woodpecker! He/she is building a nesting cavity, I think! From the outside it’ll look like an unremarkable hole but on the inside, it’ll be a teardrop-shaped pocket big enough to hold them and the eggs will sit in the bottom. The males and females take turns working on their cavity and it usually takes about 6 weeks to complete. I’m super excited to have such easy visible access to this one where I can watch the nesting process play out this year!! I’ll bring updates!
