Life was no sunshine and rainbows when I entered primary school. I was treated poorly by the people around me. Outcasted and ostracized for being ugly and unintelligent. From the beginning of primary school, I could feel the eyes that wandered around me. I felt judged for my unruly hair, my chubby cheeks and how I was already bigger than my peers. In addition to it, I struggled alot in school. I had major troubles with my studies, to the extend of producing single digit out of hundred for most of my subjects. The only thing I had successfully maintained within those two years was ranking last in class. My classmates often look at me in disgust. They would go down the extra mile to switch seats just so they could avoid sitting beside me. Sometimes, they would pretend I don’t exist. They would often hurl derogatory remarks, sabotage my work and took advantage of me as and when they need. I didn’t think that all 29 students in my class was evil, I just believed that due to one’s action, it influenced everyone around to behave the same way. Birds of a feather flock together. Until I stumbled upon one of them the following year only to be greeted with pure kindness. She had asked me about my well-being and after all those times I thought they were all the same. I remember when my teacher announced infront of the whole class at how proud he was that we were amongst the top class within the Primary 1 cohort. Indirectly mentioning that there were some “people” who needed to improve so that we could ranked first. I felt eyes on me, whispers arose from the crowd of my name. I felt humiliated. My teacher knew about the fact that I wasn’t blending in well with the rest of the class and I believed my parents knew about the fact that I was bullied too. Neither of them did anything to help me. I was a helpless 7 year old that was stuck being sad. I remember the anxiety that welled up in my throat everytime I was getting ready for school. My tears that would silently run down my cheek as soon as I stepped through the gates. They say to forgive is to forget but I’ll never forget the trauma that I unwillingly gained and the way that it has shaped me into the person I am today. I still remember all of your names, your faces and the hell you put me through. I pray and I hope none of your children will ever share the same fate as me. #fyp
