Rebar create cracks in concrete over time due to differences in expansion in the materials between cooling heating - roman concrete has stood solid for longer than modern rebar enforced concrete.

As a daughter of a construction worker, and a student of science, I’ve actually considered a form of rebar that was resistant to salt corrosion so we can use Roman concrete (whose properties..)

Roman concrete is and was far superior to the concrete we make today. They used a volcanic ash in the mix that made last way longer thn anything wr make today

The Roman’s are renowned for their concrete, they have structures 90% standing after thousands of years, modern concrete could not compete

Brian Biscuits :
The Roman concrete doesn’t need rebar because it has limestone that recrystilizes when there are cracks, effectively healing itself but it’s expensive so we don’t do it now, they didn’t need rebar

and roman concrete actually repairs itself because when a crack would form and it rained, the water would mix with the quicklime not properly mixed in and create more concrete, filling the hole
