we put sandpaper on a cutting board, hold it up and taught our dog to drag her nails on it (best combined with her fav treats to reward when she does it) does have to be done multiple times regularly!

hi there! dog groomer here. by freaking out, is it a panic reaction or an aggressive reaction? there's also a way to hold dogs that would make it easier called a "football hold".

May need to add some more sleepy meds in! My one is so bad she gets traz, gaba and ace for me to do them.

Some dogs will react better to a nail dremmel vs a nail clipper. I do my own dogs nails, and I use the Dremel Paw Control 7760-PGK. One of my dogs hates clippers, but is perfectly fine for the dremmel

What exactly does he do during nail trimmings? There are muzzles for brachycephalic breeds, although I don’t think he’d need one. A (large) normal muzzle and cone would be a good start.

I use a dremel with my pitty. Its not his favorite thing in the world, but he tolerates it with a ton of treats afterwards.

As a groomer, I’ve seen many a dog that’s just terrified of their nails being done and as odd as it sounds, they do better for us than their parents

Try a scratching board or dremel, if neither work well I would rec seek out a dog groomer. My dog had horrible issues with clippers and we found a groomer that she LOVES and will let dremel her nails

if you don't mind me asking, what clippers do you use? some brands are better than others, and my bully mix boy was the same way until I switched to a sharper brand so it cut rather than crushed!

VA here: I had a heartworm positive dog and he had to be on a few medications for nail trims/appts: Trazodone, Gabapentin, and sometimes Acepromazine. Worked like a charm and safe. Consult your vet!

Hey so game changer! If he lets you touch his feet use one of those wood detailing tools with sandpaper. I have one that’s terrified of the dremel but he’ll let me use that because it has no sound.

I just got my pitties a scratch board with a hidden treat compartment. I’m hoping it’ll do for the front nails 🤞 they’re not awful with their back nails thankfully

Poor sweet toe tufts bebe boi 🥹 does he like digging? I do diggies time on scratch board for my scaredy-dog, it helps a little bit. I'm open to tips as well 💜

Trazadone or I use dog calming aids with melatonin in them when I’m out of the traz. Also realistically taking them somewhere else to have someone else do it helps tremendously.

Definitely might try some doggy anti-anxiety disco biscuits like gabapentin😂 my dog freaksss when trying to trim his nails but with that he’s very chill and feels much too mellow to freak out.

My dog bites her nails, we don’t really know why… but it makes it easier for us cause we don’t have to cut them

Try a pet groomer, NOT a corporate one. a small one might let you help hold him while they do the clipping. I have some clients bring treats too! Many places do walk-ins for $15 or less
