For some in the comments who are confused. Yes, it is recommended you exit the motorway and pull into a safe spot, maybe a service station, to sleep if you must. The hard shoulder is NOT a safe place.

You’re suppose to take the closest exit out of the motorway or use a service station for resting. You’re not supposed to sleep in the hard shoulder. Could be because of dangers.
