Being a supportive partner makes a world of a difference. #reddit #redditstories #comingoutday #nationalcomingoutday #redditplace #rplace #trans #transflag #Pride I was afraid to come out to my boyfriend, but it turned out he was trying to help me all along. I met my boyfriend nearly two years ago, when I was in deep denial about my gender identity. After six months of dating him, I finally accepted that I was trans, but I was terrified to tell him. I was really worried that he wouldn’t want to be with me anymore, but when I came out to him it went way better than expected. Not only did he take it really well, but I found out that he had actually suspected for a while that I wasn’t cis, and he’d been trying to help!!! He saw the signs before I did. The way I dressed, the way I felt about my body, the way I dreamed of being reincarnated as a guy. I was blind to it all, but my man noticed. He decided to give me space to figure it out on my own, but he also tried to be helpful. He called me sweetheart more than my name, since he thought I might want to change my name and didn’t want to make me uncomfortable. He called me his partner instead of his girlfriend because he didn’t want to misgender me if it turned out I wasn’t a girl. One time when I was talking about my distaste for my body, he suggested that I talk to “people who had experience with that” (trans acquaintances). I asked if he was implying something, but he said no, like a liar. Lol. Sometimes I just can’t believe that my boyfriend more or less figured out my gender before I did and made a special effort to make me comfortable. And when I did finally come out to him, he smiled and told me all this. Asked my pronouns, started calling me his boyfriend, and the rest is history. It’s been a year since then. We’re engaged now, and I feel incredibly lucky. Edit: Wow, I didn’t expect this to blow up so much! Thanks for the awards! Another edit: To clarify, my fiancé is bi. He came out to me before we started dating, which I’m very thankful for because it helped me feel less afraid to come out. I bought him his first pride flag and when I came out later he bought me mine.
