This is why we often design a secondary logo or even an additional version of an icon only. In many cases, no one solution can fit every situation.

Great suggestions. For some brands, I also mock mine up as a piece of metal signage so I can test that it will truly work in one color. If not I make an alt version for limited use on stuff like that
