When schizophrenia was added to this condition, he encountered incredible challenges in his life. Bryan Charnley decided to keep a journal through his paintings. The artist planned to capture the essence of his illness by creating experimental works with various doses of medication. As a result of stopping his medication, he began to paint himself for months and, in 1991, he created his final self-portrait before ending his life at the age of 42. Due to the effects of the medication he stopped taking, Bryan Charnley made different interpretations of the paintings he created. Here are some of them: "My mind was broadcasting thoughts on an incredible scale, and I had no willpower to do anything about it. I depicted this situation by drawing my brain as a massive mouth moving independently of me." The uninvited guests of my mental inner life, each one with a foot extended from the threshold of the door. The mouth is nailed shut, and the tongue is tied, unable to respond effectively to them." "Perhaps the culprit is a broken heart. Its pain is obvious."
