The official reason for the ban on El Mordjene is the presence of milk powder in its composition. According to European legislation, Algeria is not on the list of countries authorized to export dairy products to the EU. This prohibition is based on Implementing Regulation 2021/405 which stipulates that dairy products intended for human consumption can only be imported if the country of origin complies with EU-imposed sanitary and traceability standards. Although the milk powder used in El Mordjene is initially imported from France, processing it in Algeria renders it non-compliant with European standards. 🤣Algeria does not have facilities certified by the European Commission for dairy processing, making its re-importation into France illegal.
