when on holiday in France, I notice shops are open very few hours, and petrol stations, hotel check-in is now automated. I think they have high employment costs, so they are eliminating jobs.

WFH and you act as a contractor who will not be promoted, but can be firef without anyone noticing that you have gone.

completely unrelated but have you ever thought about going on etoro as a popular investor? You've got a fair amount of social media followers and it'll be another stream of income?

jokes on them. A lot of people like me are now on London salaries without living in London. I'm happy to go without a promotion for many years while that gap closes

massively depends on industry. ultimately a factor in promotion and opportunities is exposure and awareness. If you engage actively, WFH or not, then you can climb

If they are cutting staff and prioritising it to those who can't as easily get themselves into the office Vs actual productivity/output/value...feels like a false economy 🤣

it's because employers are obsessed with control/surveillance and landlords were seeing their office buildings lose value
