leverage, the weight is close to the hinge point. the force the weight applies is multiplied by the distance from the hinge. that plus the bar weight means it doesn't move

It’s becuase it’s a 45 pound bar with a 45 pound weight. If it was more it would fall. It looks weird but it does make sense!
