@gary_maclachlan: Finding the hidden viewpoint of Neuschwanstein Castle was one of the scariest experiences, but so worth it for the rare front view of the castle. While staying in Munich, I took the train to Fussen to start the journey, which was a beautiful Bavarian town. From there, a bus will take you to Hohenschwangau where you will start the walk to the castle. At first I did the traditional tourist route which was great, but to get the best view you have to go an alternative route. Follow the street Pöllatweg coming out of Hohenschwangau, and then continue down Wanderweg Der Deutschen Einheit until you come to the Pollat River. At first, I went the wrong direction to the right side by the waterfalls which led me to a dead end, so I went back down and continued more to the left side and crossed the river. Continue walking up the woodlands towards the right again, and keep the castle in view. Eventually after around 2 hours you will come to the infamous viewpoint among the trees where you can get incredible photographs and admire the surrounding mountains. WARNING - the walk is very steep for the whole journey, and can be dangerous.
