@missclairebenjamin: 🚨Handling the “sloppy” one👇 It can be really tiring and frustrating as a manager when you keep raising the same issues and the same mistakes happen repeatedly. A trap we can fall into is focusing on each individual incident rather than recognising the pattern that has emerged. The we can and focus on discussing this. Try to avoid showing your annoyance and instead highlight the pattern you’re seeing and try to tease out from your direct report how they think the unproductive pattern can be broken. Focusing on the pattern moves the conversation away from you against them and towards looking at the problem (the unproductive pattern) together. This creates safety which often helps resolve things. “I’m notice there’s a pattern in our 1:1s where [INSERT PATTERN]. I’m curious how we can we break this pattern?” Remember to be clear with your direct report that it’s important the issue is addressed to prevent it becoming a more formal performance conversation. Clear is kind. It’s important people understand the full picture and consequences. Let them know you are there to support but you need their help as you don’t know where to go next. This creates shared responsibility. 💬 Leave a 🙌 in the comments if you’re going to keep this technique up your sleeve 👀 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and intended for guidance purposes only. usually happens when someone has been asked to do reports but has never actually been shown how to do it

Honestly sometimes its large workload and tight deadlines - trying to get everything done on time quickly can cause errors

This is why my last job didn’t work out, I was asking for help after repeated mistakes and my manager NEVER took any responsibility.

In my experience, in corporate America it's a huge no-no to tell your boss if anything else is going on. Best way to get labeled distracted and unreliable.

This often happens to workers who have been delegated too much responsibility, and sometimes there are elements of micromanagement.

Why is it always the managers responsibility. If something is being done wrong time after time where is the accountability?

I'm going through this right now as a manager. I'm finding mistakes and fixing them and they keep happening. It's very frustrating. And there should be some pressure.

In BOTH scenarios the sloppy one ISNT matching boss's energy 4 wanting to PREVENT sloppiness from happening again.

That was my last manager...and my exact reaction. The abuse was constant without any support whatsoever.

The second approach is way way better. No one would have to talk to me twice.

My management’s approach seems to be, ignore those who make errors or don’t do the work, and expect others to pick up the slack.

Fleet manager kept mixing up characters & we almost flew in the wrong plane for our chairman, had I not caught on. Absolutely 🤯 to me how someone can sneak mistakes into a 16-digit copy-pastable code
