Brachycephaly is characterized by: 1️⃣ A flat posterior skill (right at the back) 2️⃣ A slope upwards from the forehead towards the top of the back of the head 3️⃣ A wider head when looking from the front or back view Risk factors include: ✔️A baby who sleeps on their back for extended periods of time and doesn't move around in their sleep ✔️A baby who is on their back during awake time for long periods and does not change positions frequently ✔️A baby who spends a lot of time in "containers"- swings, car seat, bouncy chairs etc ✔️Positioning in the womb causing the beginning of the flat head shape ✔️Premature babies Treatment and Prevention: 🔹Always consult a Pediatric healthcare provider to assess your baby for any neck tightness or other issues that may be causing the flat head 🔹Change your baby's position frequently during awake time 🔹Practice at least 45 mins of tummy time per day broken in to small intervals 🔹Play in sidelying positions: alternate right and left sides 🔹Feed your baby on their right and left side instead of on their back #mommyhood #postpartum #tummytime #parenting #newborn #flathead #brachycephaly #babyplayideas #fourthtrimester #firstyear #babydevelopment #kidsphysio #pedipt #momlife #infant
