yup baking soda is the most efficient way to put out a grease fire. not water or anything else. the lid is doable but not the best way. some kinds have vents which feed fire air instead of smoothering

Once my roomie calling for help and getting to the kitchen just in time to scream no when he was at a grease fire with a pot of water. I was too late. Ironically that was not the time our house burned

here in France we learn what to do in sèche situations before 10. we also learn how to make a 911 call more effective. kitchen fire on the stove? cover it. only thing to do. don't panick.
