I love Oyoroi 大鎧大好き❤️ I came to learn about this type of armour as here in Japan in May we see a lot of oyoroi for Children's Day or tango no sekku. The sets of armour are traditional symbols of samurai culture that are wishes for children to grow up healthy and strong. Historically worn between the 10th and 14th centuries. Because oyoroi is very difficult to come by and replicas are very expensive this set is actually tango no sekku armour meant as a wish for Children's Day. Made by hand in Kyoto the craftsman has given me his blessing to wear it😊京都甲冑 平安住一水の作品で着る許可いただいております😃 Oyoroi is easily recognisable by specific parts that make it special. 大鎧は騎馬戦が主流であった平安時代末期の戦い方に適した鎧でした。 It is armor for battles on horseback and the structure is not really suitable for walking troops. Most of the weight is supported by the shoulders with Oyoroi and it can feel heavy. This armour is designed for horseback where the weight of the armor hangs onto the saddle and stabilizes the body. Osode: A shield-shaped component suspended from the shoulder that reaches the upper part of the arm. They move to shield the wearer depending on the angle of their body. 矢を防ぐため、後世の袖に比べ大きい。左の袖を射向の袖、右の袖を馬手の袖（めてのそで）と呼ばれました。 Sendan and kyubi no ita (armpit guards), helped to protect the underarms from strikes while stretching the arms when drawing the bow. 栴檀板鳩尾板: 鎧の正面の上方の両脇は隙間があるので、敵に矢を射込まれやすい急所です。これを防御する栴檀板と鳩尾板を肩上から釣り下げ防具としました。 The slightly rounded chest made for an easy draw of the yumi. To help with the release of the string, a layer of leather called tsuru bashiri gawa was used to cover the front of the chest to prevent the bowstring from snagging. 弦走韋 金具廻りという鉄板の表には装飾的に小紋染めの鹿の鞣韋なめしがわを貼ります。弓を引いた時に弦が胸の札に引っかかるのを防ぐ意味と装飾を兼ねたもので、弦走韋といいます。 Oyoroi fell out of favor around the early to mid-14th century.
