On the morning of February 19, 2013 at the Cecil Hotel, a maintenance worker was inspecting the rooftop water tanks. Prompted by guest complaints about low water pressure, discoloured water, and an unusual taste. Upon opening the lid to one of the four water tanks the hotel worker found a partially decaying woman floating face up in the water, her clothing floating beside her. This discovery would end the 19 day search for missing person Elisa Lam. Elisa came to Los Angeles to explore and enjoy the city alone. On January 31, 2013 Eliza Lam was scheduled to check out of the Cecil hotel, her parents had not heard from their daughter and up until that day she had been in daily contact with them. Worried about her they contacted Los Angeles Police department (LAPD) to report her as missing, they also flew out to Los Angeles. The LAPD conducted extensive searches of the Cecil Hotel, where Elisa had last been seen. The police also had search dogs sweep through the building, including the rooftop, however the search dogs didn’t detect Elisa’s scent. After 2 weeks the LAPD released elevator surveillance footage from the Cecil hotel which was recorded on January 31st. The video gained a lot of attention online, in the video Eliza was alone and displayed unusual behaviour. She pressed all elevator buttons and looked anxiously into the hallway, she stepped out and eventually left when the elevator doors failed to close. No dr*gs were found in Eliza Lam’s system. Eliza did suffer with bipolar disorder, this led people to believe she was having an episode the night she disappeared. Eliza Lam’s de@th was initially ruled as accidental drowning however, a more detailed coroner’s report revealed that the concentration of Eliza’s prescription drugs suggested that she may of been under-medicating or had recently discontinued her prescribed medication for her bipolar disorder. The tragic case of Eliza Lam is puzzling. The doors and staircases leading to the water tanks were secured, with only staff having the necessary codes and keys. Any attempt to tamper with the doors would have triggered alarms. However it was speculated that Eliza might have used the hotels fire escape. Eliza entering the water tanks alone was also puzzling as all four tanks were 4 by 8 foot and needed a ladder to get into. #truecrime #truecrimestory #truecrimeanimated #fyp #sad #foryoupage #viralvideo #cecilhotel
